OUR HISTORY

The Jamaica Medical Students' Association (JAMSA) was founded in 1972 and represents all students pursuing a medical degree in Jamaica. JAMSA comprises of three full and candidate local councils at The University of the West Indies, Mona, Caribbean School of Medical Sciences Jamaica, and All American Institute of Medical Sciences. Since the early 2000s we've served as the National Member Organization of Jamaica to the International Federation of Medical Students Associations. JAMSA has six standing committees through which it works to carry out its vision. We work to unite and empower medical students locally with special emphasis on advocacy, volunteerism, and social accountability. JAMSA, with the support of the IFMSA and its supporting bodies, seeks to shape the future of medical students in healthcare. Through its six standing committees, JAMSA is helping medical students to find their voices, and actively pursue change not only at a local level but within healthcare settings the world over. The standing committees focus on areas such as public health, human rights and peace, sexual and reproductive health and rights including HIV and AIDS, medical education, and research and professional exchanges.
